Referee Development Program

South West Queensland is proud to introduce its Referee Development Program, a comprehensive initiative designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence of referees at all levels. This program is an exciting step forward for officiating in our region, offering valuable opportunities to enhance the quality of refereeing while supporting the growth and professionalism of touch football in SWQ.

What to Expect from the Program

The Referee Development Program offers a range of activities and opportunities tailored to referees of all skill levels, from newcomers to seasoned officials. Here’s what participants can look forward to:

  • Training Workshops:
Clinics will be held across the South West region, making them accessible to as many referees as possible. Each session will cover key areas such as rule interpretation, game management, positioning, and communication skills.
  • Practical On-Field Experience:
Participants will have the opportunity to officiate live games during local carnivals or competitions. Under the supervision of experienced mentors, referees will receive constructive, real-time feedback to help refine their skills.
  • Mentoring Program:
Referees will be paired with experienced officials who will provide guidance, support, and advice throughout the program. This mentoring relationship is designed to foster continuous learning and confidence-building.
  • Development Pathways:
The program is structured to cater to referees at different stages of their journey. Whether you’re just starting or aiming to officiate at the highest levels, there will be tailored opportunities to help you progress.
  • Networking and Community:
The program also provides a chance to connect with fellow referees from across the region, sharing experiences and building a supportive officiating community.

The referee clinics will be held before junior representative lead-in carnivals, ensuring referees are well-prepared for the season ahead. Dates, times, and locations for these clinics will be confirmed soon, so stay tuned.
